The initial layout was designed in Eagle, then redesigned in Dip Trace, and finally in Altium (part of this was due to company funding over the project timeline). Discussions were had several times about using industrial grade PLC or if the Arduino was suitable for the job (as to a beagle bone or a RaspberryPi), but due to it’s reliability, ease of use, and cost the company decided to continue using the Arduino. The scope of this review is for the final year of the AUX board, which is a large shield for an Arduino Mega.

The project was originally scoped to be self contained (on-off) with manual inputs (a flow knob and push buttons) and was scaled to be controlled by a terminal. Working for a Biomedical tech start up in San Francisco I designed the electronic sensors and actuators to control water flow, water temperature, water direction with mechanical valves, several light inputs, and communications between systems.
